The Charles North Neighborhood in Baltimore Maryland is an historic arts district anchored by Charles Street and North Avenue and includes Penn Station, the North Avenue Market and the historic Charles Theater. Twelve specific sites within the area were studied in detail to establish architectural, urban design and redevelopment goals.
The proposal features a mix of uses to include residential, retail, office, performance space, a hotel and a variety of green spaces. The Study carefully integrates the existing small scale historic buildings, while determining land use assignment and responding to the existing scale and character of the study area.
BTA+Matrix Settles proposed that Charles North will become Baltimore’s first demonstration district for a carbon-neutral and sustainable revitalized neighborhood.
