mixed-use/urban design

ArtFarm is a socially innovative design study to reactivate and transform a former waste management site in the Brickbottom area of Somerville, MA.

It addresses the artistic and recreational needs of the local community through the creation of well-designed, active spaces, in addition to green and passive spaces.

The guiding principal was identifying benefits to the community, arts and culture and the environment. Attention was given to sustainable features, the economic feasibility of the project, the physical infrastructure and the needs of the adjacent community, in terms of access to the site from Union Square and the proposed MBTA Green Line Extension stop at Washington Street.
